Birding Tours

Bhutan’s geographical aspects makes it a natural sanctuary for the flora and fauna. The 38,000 sq km of Bhutan’s land coverage is home to more than 200 species of birds, almost equivalent to, the whole of North America.

The lush mountain streams around every corner and the pristine forest combined with the protected wild life sanctuaries and National parks provides a safe haven to numerous species of birds.

Bhutan is one of the only few countries which puts environmental conservation first to any kind of development activity. The constitution states that 60 percent of the land coverage should be preserved and maintained as forest. It also has stringent laws to protect the flora and fauna of the country. To cite an example a man can get a life sentence for killing the endangered black necked cranes ( grus nigrcollis). These kind of law serves, as a good deterrent.

Bhutan is home to the very rare white bellied herons, which can spotted wading and feeding stealthily along the punachangtsu and upstream po chu.
